About our Vision and Values

Every community has a way of living together that defines who they are and guides who it is they will become.  At Holy Cross, we have tried to be intentional with regard to thinking about what it is that is important to us and who it is that we believe God has called us to be.

Our Vision Statement reflects our belief that God has called us as a community to reach out to ALL PEOPLE.  That means that we value diversity because we already are a diverse people.  “Gathered from all walks of life…” we believe God wants to use this community to continue that “gathering” process.

Our Values grow out of our belief in a God who saves us by His graciousness and not by anything we can possibly do or become.  We are a Lutheran church community within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) who take seriously our Lord’s call to share the Good News with all people.  In short, we stress the E in ELCA.

Our Vision

Gathered from all walks of life we come together to grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ which empowers us to go out and share God's good news in word and deed.

Gathered...Growing...and Going Out in the love of Jesus Christ!

 Our Values

At Holy Cross, we strive to be a "Good News" people.

Gospel proclaiming and biblically grounded.  We believe that God’s Holy Word as revealed in scripture and in Christ Jesus, communicates God’s love and wisdom to us for the purpose of transforming our lives.  We submit to its authority.

Outreach oriented in all that we do.  As a church for the “other” we extend to everyone the invitation: “Whoever you are, however you come, you are welcome here!”

One in the Body of Christ, we strive and pray for unity among Christians and peace for all people.

Disciples of Jesus and his teachings.  We believe that we have been gathered for the purpose of being a ‘light to the world,’ salt for the earth’ and a ‘holy city of faith set on a hill for all the world to see.’  We share with others what   God has first given us; our time, our talent and our possessions, signs of God’s gracious love.

New life in Christ is the gift we are given daily in our baptisms.  We believe in a living God who continues to re-create   and ‘make all things new.’  We value wholeness in   families of all varieties and endeavor to equip them for their faith journeys through education, fellowship, support and prayer.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit we celebrate each person’s spiritual gifts by helping one another discern those gifts and then providing the environment in which those gifts   might be shared.  “Ministry anywhere, anytime by anyone” is a   principle by which we live.

Worship gathers our community through the waters of baptism for the purpose of encountering Jesus Christ in word and meal.

Sent out into the world by the love and command of Jesus Christ ‘to love one another as God has loved us’ and ‘to make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.’
